Jon Gottlieb is an internationally recognized sound designer for the legitimate stage and immersive environments. He has designed the sound for over 500 productions and installations including 11 productions on Broadway. In 1996 Mr. Gottlieb joined the faculty of the CalArts School of Theater as Head of the Sound Design. He presently continues in his 25th year at CalArts, and served as acting dean of the School of Theater from 2003 to 2005. Concurrently, he worked professionally for fifteen years as the resident sound designer for Center Theatre Group (Mark Taper Forum and Ahmanson Theater) in Los Angeles, and previously held similar positions at the Los Angeles Theatre Center and The Pasadena Playhouse. For Disney Imagineering, he created original sound effects and design for two attractions at Walt Disney World in Florida.
His professional design work continues as he teaches and includes the sound for the last 7 seasons of LA Opera/Education at the COLA. He most recently designed sound for productions at The Geffen Playhouse, Wallis Annenberg PAC, and the Pasadena Playhouse. On the west end, he designed Master Class with Tyne Daily at the Vaudeville Theatre in London, as well as productions at Manhattan Theater Club on Broadway and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
