Hunter Wells

Hunter Wells studied Biology as an undergraduate, and his interest in the natural world continues to inform his artistic practice. Hunter spent three years touring with Cirque du Soleil before pursuing an MFA in Design from CalArts. Since graduation, Hunter has designed for numerous LA-area theaters as well as for film projects, including the award-winning 2011 musical Leave it on the Floor. Prior to beginning his current role as Costume Shop Manager for the CalArts School of Theater, Hunter spent ten years in the Entertainment Costuming Department at Universal Studios Hollywood, where he worked as Production Costumer for Halloween Horror Nights and Grinchmas special events. Hunter has taught Costume Techniques classes at CalArts since 2018, and worked full time in the Costume Shop since 2021. In his spare time, Hunter creates art-to-wear costumes and sculpture, and dabbles in Performance Art inspired by Queer sexuality and world religions.
