Bart DeLorenzo

Bart DeLorenzo is a Los Angeles-based theater director and the founding artistic director of the Evidence Room Theater. His recent work with the company includes Marivaux’s The False Servant, Sarah Ruhl’s Passion Play, Anton Chekhov’s Ivanov, Len Jenkin’s Margo Veil, and Adam Bock’s The Receptionist, produced with the Odyssey Theater.

Other recent directing includes Sarah Ruhl’s Stage Kiss, Steven Drukman’s Death of the Author (premiere), and Donald Margulies’ Coney Island Christmas (premiere) at the Geffen Playhouse; Kimber Lee’s tokyo fish story (premiere), Carla Ching’s Fast Company (premiere), Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s Doctor Cerberus (premiere), Donald Margulies’ Shipwrecked! An Entertainment (premiere), and Sarah Ruhl’s Dead Man’s Cell Phone at South Coast Rep; Sharr White’s Annapurna with The New Group (NY); Charlayne Woodard’s The Night Watcher at Studio Theatre (DC); Guillermo Calderon’s Kiss, David Greenspan’s Go Back to Where You Are, Justin Tanner’s Day Drinkers (premiere), and Caryl Churchill’s A Number at the Odyssey; Wendy MacLeod’s Women in Jeopardy at the Ensemble Theatre of Santa Barbara; Jonathan Caren’s Need to Know (premiere) with Rogue Machine Theatre; Shakespeare’s Cymbeline at A Noise Within; and Justin Tanner’s Voice Lessons (premiere) at the Zephyr; Karen Zacarias’ Legacy of Light and Mark Brown’s Around the World in 80 Days at the Cleveland Play House; King Lear with the Antaeus Company; and Michael Sargent’s The Projectionist (premiere) at the Kirk Douglas Theatre. 

He has directed over 60 plays around the country and has participated in the development of new works at the Ojai Playwrights Conference, SCR’s Pacific Playwrights Festival, O’Neill National Playwrights Conference, the Perry-Mansfield New Works Festival, and the Mark Taper Forum’s New Work Festival, among others. He has directed many live radio performances for LA Theater Works.

For his work, he has received LA Weekly awards, Backstage Garlands, LA Drama Critics Circle Awards including the Milton Katselas Award for career achievement, and TCG’s Alan Schneider Director Award. He is a graduate of Yale University and the American Repertory Theater Institute at Harvard.
