Julie Bour

Julie Bour (Contemporary Technique, Composition) Julie Bour is a native french choreographer settled in the USA since 2002. She creates works for her project-based company as well as for renowned repertory companies such as Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, 10 Hairy Legs or Joffrey Concert group. Graduate from the Conservatoire National of Paris, she is also the recipient of the 1997 Bessie Award and an assistant to Angelin Preljocaj since 2007. Her career as a dancer brought her to work with Ballet Preljocaj, Inbal Pinto dance company, Julie Taymor and a variety of International Choreographers and Directors.

Julie started her choreographic journey in 2006 when she co-founded The Flying Mammoth, a company dedicated to create bridges between art worlds. A born traveler, she has been living in Paris, Marseille, Tel-Aviv, Brussels, Las Vegas, New York City and Los Angeles. While deeply conscious of her experience and influences, Julie doesn't feel bound by a style or a technique. By exploring the dynamics of contemporary cultures through the prism of who she is today she creates works that resonate the cultural moment. Combining the exploration of her medium with composers and actors collaborations Julie crafted her language overtime by consistently working with a diverse group of celebrated dancers committed to dance invention. The unorthodoxy and internationality of both her professional and personal paths are strongly present in her choreographic process. While living in New York city, Julie created many dance pieces for her company and some others for Schools such as Joffrey School and Alvin Ailey School as well as Universities and Theater Companies on both sides of the Atlantic. Her works are presented in theaters across America and Europe, in Festivals and Art Galleries.

Julie's pedagogic work since 2005 includes teaching at the Juilliard School, the Alvin Ailey School, the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Wayne State University, Iowa city University, Irvine University, Interlochen School of the arts. From 2008-2011 she is a faculty teacher at the Joffrey Ballet School and she was also teaching open classes at Steps on Broadway, Peridance, Dance New Amsterdam and Panetta dance Studio in New York city. Julie also likes to teach company classes and her last experiences include Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Ballet Preljocaj and L.A Dance Project.
