How are we as artists using our creative practices to promote social change? How are we equipped to answer hard questions about representation and respect when we are not “in charge”?

Actor, producer, and activist Behzad Dabuwill join ArtChangeUS and the Asian Student Alliance at CalArts to present on creative arts activism and how to navigate a professional career with social and personal integrity. Through personal stories, lecture, and Q&A Dabu will unpack how we as artists can use our creative practices to promote social change as well as the importance of the artist’s ability and power to say “No.” In an industry that often promotes racial stereotypes, social normalities and/or caricatures of a people or culture, Dabu will discuss strategies for generating and engaging in productive, healthy conversations regarding art and race, rather than avoiding them. On screen, you can see him as ‘Simon Drake’ on Seasons 3 and 4 of How To Get Away With Murderon ABC and as ‘Amir’ on The Chi.
