Walt Disney Imagineering to Visit CalArts on Oct. 14
On Friday, October 14, a team of Imagineers from Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) will pay their annual visit to CalArts to give an informational presentation and meet with students one-on-one. Last year, WDI and the CalArts School of Theater initiated a partnership that enabled twelve students from a variety of disciplines to go behind the scenes at Disney and develop four original Imagineering projects. The students were split into four groups and, under the mentorship of WDI Imagineers, fully conceived large-scale rides, spectaculars and attractions that were then pitched to top level members of the WDI community at their Glendale campus. Of the twelve students, Tiana Torillhon (SP/11) and Mireya Lucio (A/11) were subsequently offered and accepted contracted Imagineering positions. Several others have had meetings and interviews that will potentially lead to future employment opportunities.
WDI is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research and development arm of The Walt Disney Company. Representing more than 150 disciplines, its talented corps of Imagineers is responsible for the creation of Disney resorts, theme parks and attractions, hotels, water parks, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, cruise ships and new media technology projects. By blending creativity and innovative technological advancements, WDI has produced some of the world's most distinctive experiential storytelling.
